Community Involvement The City of Hinesville's Community Involvement Plan details the public outreach and involvement strategies to be implemented as part of the Brownfields redevelopment effort in the Memorial Drive Corridor. The intent of community involvement is to explain the nature of and issues associated with Brownfields sites, in general, and to educate the community about the current environmental conditions and potential for revitalization and/or redevelopment of the Brownfield sites along Memorial Drive. One objective of the outreach effort will be to continually solicit local input to promote communication among stakeholders. The goal of this activity will be to create a redevelopment plan that has the support of the local community and the highest potential for success. The City will identify opportunities and strategies for public outreach and education that effectively and efficiently target relevant stakeholders and results in decisions that support the City's goals of stimulating economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.
The City of Hinesville hosted an educational outreach event for high school students at Liberty County High School. Employees from AECOM Environment visited the high school and spoke with students in Environmental Sciences and Chemistry about Brownfield redevelopment efforts on Memorial Drive. The students learned the Memorial Drive Brownfield cleanup projects fit into the City of Hinesville Redevelopment Master Plan.
Following the Brownfield Redevelopment educational outreach event, the students were invited to enter the "A New Hinesville" Model Building Contest. Click below for more information on the contest:
